Hacking Holidays

So I’ve been MIA but with legitimate reasons, listed below, but what brought me back to the game (so to speak) is my Luv of food and sharing. In fact I’ve involved my children on this quest to fight the COVID bulge and hack the holiday eating frenzy. It’s back to food, fitness and family on MANA WAHINE FITNESS.

Here goes my, “Where I’ve been” and “What’s happening” list.

1. I didn’t know if I had anything left to share in this space.

2. Started working at a school creating, developing and co-hearting a program for preK-12th. (I’ll share a video below.)

3. Wrote an E-Book and didn’t know what to do with it after publishing. Walk Inn Beauty

4. Played around with a podcast Walk Inn Beauty and haven’t touched it in awhile.

5. Raising 7 children (4 are teens) and co-homeschooling with my husband.

It’s my WELCOME BACK 🥳 to blogging, which I missed.

I’m still teaching Zumba and my online classes are so much fun. I even bought new gear to celebrate the new sessions.

I started LUNCH & LEARN sessions via Facebook group. Keep reading, I have a simple wild rice 🌾 recipe.

Good Vibes

Tried VLOGMAS for a couple of days and it turned out pretty good. (pictures below) I talked my teenagers into joining me and they did a fantastic job. Speaking of youth, they currently join me during my online sessions since we turned our Ohana living room into a dance studio. Lol.

Fit Foodie

The BEST holiday hack is to meal prep because the goal is to jump into 2021… seriously! The sweet temptations are everywhere so you have to arm yourself with good food. So add that extra fiber and plant based proteins because the more you prep the easier it will be to say no.

Wild rice with greens and salmon.

It’s literally the same three ingredients styled differently. I adore these containers from ELLO and bought several at Costco.

Wild Rice: A mix of protein and fiber, low in calories. Contains Manganese an antioxidant, it aids in keeping the mitochondria in your cells healthy.

Brussels Sprouts, Kale, Broccoli & Purple Cabbage: You’ve seen those salad bag mixes at Costco and Cash & Carry. They’re time savers because one bag can do so much!

I added can salmon, not my usual choice but I was trying to create from a menu that could live in your pantry. Everything except the salad could keep for months. Video tutorial on the link below. Enjoy

Teaching

This picture is in the gym at Chief Leschi Schools of the Puyallup Tribe, a PreK to 12th grade establishment.

I started fitness sessions back in March 2020 when the pandemic first hit. It was a way for teachers to keep moving and stay positive. My initial goal was to remain active until the students returned… but that didn’t happen. (Yet)

So far several of us have continued but I’m really concerned about the students. Every time I see them on screen 👩🏻‍💻 sitting back, sedentary and aloof I get worried.

If you have any ideas please comment.

Women who DO don’t wait for permission!

I speak from experience because if I waited I wouldn’t be where I am today. I’m on a WholelisticFit journey and it’s not easy. Excuses and doubt happen but it shouldn’t become a defining factor.

Can you imagine a life without pain, sickness or disease?

What would it take to make that happen?

Stop trying to heal the world. Start healing yourself and the world will take notice. Start with YOU. Because if you’re like me, we’ve seen the headlines and feel the hurt. Our first reaction is sorrow and maybe hopelessness. Sometimes we stop moving all together because we’re chained by sadness. But that’s when you use your WHY to refocus and stay in motion.

Energize your fit schedule with an emotional connection to wellness. Develop a deep and rooted WHY into every squat, plank and burpee.

Make the extra effort, do what the average person wouldn’t. Stay consistent, persevere and believe in the process.

Speaking of process, I was talking to my sister, Make Mahalo, about our goals. She used the term, “the G-d process!” Which I understand as going through challenges KNOWING that there’s a lesson in the midst. The willingness to have faith and keep moving forward.

Will the life lessons ever stop? Probably not. The G-d process seems to be ingrained into the universe.

Keep moving forward!

So I’m doing another fitness concert, and it’s been awhile. The last one was in the Spring and it feels like decades. I can’t wait to sweat along side of some fabulous women and a few good men. The best part is blasting the music 🎶 and moving to the rhythm.

Also if you’re interested my blog WholelisticFit.com has a new article called, “WHY & WILLpower, which do you need first?” It list the 5-Steps-To-A-Strong-Why and includes some pinable quotes. Keep in mind that you have to be a MERMAID to read it, and membership is free. I’m closing with a few vision boards I created and posted on Instagram! PEACE Be the Journey, Ho’omālamalama

3 Changes 2 Better

I’m always learning and processing. Especially when confronting uncomfortable change. When I first started teaching STRONG By Zumba® I was way out of my league, but I wanted change.

Being a mother of seven [7] I didn’t want to look like I gave birth to seven. I wanted to be healthy enough to play soccer ⚽️ with them.  Hike and create an active lifestyle.

My goal was to embrace where I was and suffer through the workout, to be STRONG. Happily, I no longer suffer through the workout because my body is conditioned to flow with it.

Here’s what I did in info-pic form…

[PS: Comment if you want to dive into a life changing experience of your own.]

July’s Fitness Goals

I'm challenging all MANA WAHINE to plank, yes I said PLANK, during the month of July.

[Why?] There are so many benefits when holding a properly aligned plank. Muscle's, cells, hair follicle are all participating. Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating by a hair. Lol, sorry about the weak pun.

[Can beginners participate?] Anyone who wants to, and has medical approval, can participate. Below is the info-pic I created as a guide. Pin-it and use it daily. I hope you have fun with this challenge and join me. Comment below if you are.

I'll be on Facebook Livestreaming daily with my MANA WAHINE. We checkin at 5:30am daily to follow the chart above. Talk about dedication!  We're starting off will smaller increments that will increase daily.

I also have a new workout schedule for July. It's going to be a fun month. So have a safe 4th and stay hydrated. PEACE Be the Journey.

I like to swap off fitness styles to give my MANA WAHINE a full body workout. Which is your favorite?

Sistahz Soirée

As you can see we’re happy 😊 and it’s the type of happiness that comes from hanging out with positive people. From my limited experience people who practice dance fitness seem to vibe joy. [why?] Because music 🎶 plus movement is motivational.

Music 🎶 plus movement is MOTIVATIONAL.

That statement was profound in my mind, which is why I had to quote it.

I like practicing other forms of fitness but when it comes to Zumba I happily render my body to intense cardio moments. Lol 😂The while premise is that Zumba is more of a party 🎉 and I’ve noticed how it changes perceptions of fitness.

So last year I conducted fitness events but this year it’s all about the 🎉 PARTY. Creating a party like experience that will combine food & fitness. Originally I called these SISTAHZ SESSION but this month, in honor of Mothet’s Day, I’m co-hosting SISTAHZ SOIRÉE for the first time.

Parties with a fitness theme is perfect for any community. It has a way of boosting a  fit lifestyle.

  1. MIND SHIFT. It tricks our brain into believing that it’s not a workout when it really is.
  2. CELEBRATE. The fun & wow factor takes a mundane task, workout, and turns it into a celebration.
  3. VALUE. Happy events create intrinsic connections that is deeply felt. It sparks a memory of joy.
  4. CONNECTION. Sometimes we feel alone in our struggles of health & fitness. Yet spending time with positive people, who are dancing right with you, is super motivating.
  5. JUMP START. I’ve seen how a simple dance fitness class can be the gateway to other levels of fitness.

This 👆🏽 is my latest event and it’s a Mother’s Day Special. 💜 I’m focusing on spoiling the women in the community who do so much for their families.

Fall, fitness and… clay masks?

One of my favorite things as a child was playing in the mud. My siblings and I would search for the perfect mud puddle or creek with a clay embankment. It was messy and heaven at the same time.  Forget play-dough, our clay was 100% organic without any harmful dyes.

Today I’m grown, slightly mature and a mother but I still enjoy that cool mushy feeling of wet clay. Naturally I would like to indulge in a facial mask but the prices at many of these high-end spas are interesting. After all I use to play in this stuff for free!

I actually checked out a spa and many of the items in their mask are in my kitchen. Products like honey, oats and vitamin E. (I have a supplement shelf.) All I needed was the clay to make my mud mask. Fortunately I know of an organic shop called  Ubiquitous Journey that sells herbs, loose leaf teas, spices and a beauty DIY section. (Do It Yourself.)

I chose three different types of clays, each with unique mineral content and played around with various combinations. It’s so easy to use that I brought some to the ladies in my Zumba class. The picture above was taken after my Facebook lifestream session where I showed them how to mix and apply  the clays.

There are countless blogs, vlogs and articles about these amazing clays. My purpose is to show you a few of the combinations that you can duplicate. The main ingredient is the clay and you can start using it with little prep time. All you really need is purified, filtered or distilled water to mix and make your mud mask. As you can see from the picture below my na keiki (children) wanted in on the fun too!

Basic Mix

  1. One tablespoon clay (a little can go a long way)
  2. Purified H2O (add slowly for a pasty texture)
  3. Few drops of oil (indulge in the nourishing feeling)
  4. Mix and use (I prefer to make it when I need it)
  5. Leave on for about 8-10 minutes

Mini breakdown…

  • Rhassoul Clay – suitable for daily use.
  • French Green Clay (and others) – about once a week or on targeted areas.
  • Fullers Earth Clay – about once a week.

In classic kiddie fashion they had to make faces to go with their mask. I’m super happy for my young teens who can benefit from the clays at an early age. Preventing that horrible teen acne problem that I remember going through. The best part is that it has ZERO chemical content and totally organic.

Beautiful Body – Day 23 & 24

I use to think about all the changes that I needed to make but never succeeded. (Why?) Because I was just thinking and never made a plan or even a checklist but the moment I did everything changed. Checklist are helpful because they…

  • Give you a snapshot of what you need to do.
  • Simple and easy to read.
  • At a glance you’re able to prioritize your mind.

Above is a simple list and you can give yourself hearts. The nice part is that you can revisit this list often until you’ve earned all five hearts ❤️💛💚💙💜.

Special announcement: if you’re in my classes.

Meal prep to snacks to DIY skin care we’re going to have fun on #AlohaFridays and I’ll make sure to share what we do with you all on the blog.

Beauty Fit: Three hair mask treatments that you can blend up. It’s safe for all ages & stages.

Make your own list of things to try. After all, you’re full of potential. #makeithappen

Foodie Fit: This curry is perfect as a post workout meal. Have you cooked with Poo? Or Kun Sayiuud Diwong who goes by her nickname Poo.

Beautiful Body – Day 21 & 22

I went to a fancy spa and read the services they provide. It was like reading a menu. Honey, oatmeal, avocado oh my! Then I jumped onto Pinterest & created two boards.

Live HealthyLet medicine be your food and let food be… scrumptious! Educate, empower & eat.

Live Pampered: Beauty from the inside-out with doable recipes to mix up some delicious products for your gorgeous self.

A little history, I’ve been mixing up facial products since I was 10-ish and now I’m 40-ish, you do the math. It all started with a food fight that left my skin feeling lovely.

The most empowering thing you can do for yourself is to experience  sustainability.

When you make something for yourself you…

  • Create a connection through the process.
  • Learn to rely on your own abilities.
  • Develop a stronger sense of self worth.
  • Time spent equals value & value denotes treasure.
  • Appreciate craftsmanship in other handmade products.

Beauty Fit: Have you tried sugaring to remove unwanted hair. It’s better then razor or wax. Find out why.

Freedom feels like independent living. Knowing that you can do it yourself, DIY.

Foodie Fit: Oh just in time for summer, it’s fruit hacks. Worth the watch if you entertain and want to provide healthy snacks.

Want to get the links to two of my challenges? (BEAUTIFUL- MIND & BODY) I’ve organized it under the MWF PROGRAM tab.

Dance Fit: Fun one from Zumba that you can totally master.

Beautiful Mind – Day 30

The best way to maintain what you’ve learned is to go out a teach others. Think about who you will invite to the BEAUTIFUL MIND challenge & be enthusiastic when sharing. By putting yourself in the teacher position you will create permanent & positive change.  (You probably remember me saying this on DAY 29.)

Help others.

Here’s some ideas to get you started…

  • Organize a cafè meet-up with a few friends and share your observations.
  • Got family or friends who live far? No worries, you can Google Hangout and meet-up online. It’s free.
  • Implement the challenge within your organization. (Specialty clubs like knitting, quilting, scrapbook, mommy & me, small biz or master mind group.

Guidelines

  1. You are the observer.
  2. Listening is a gift, all you need to do is witness their process.
  3. Use a timer & everyone shares the same amount. No exceptions but you all can choose the length of time.
  4. Never try to solve or figure out their situation. They must process on their own.
  5. Encourage them and stay positive.
  6. Keep the energy flowing and don’t sit too long on one person.  (Timers are awesome.)
  7. Let them know you have one expectation: Consideration.

Take it to the next level! There’s something powerful about stating your intention. Once you’ve organized your group let us know in the chat box. Then have your BEAUTIFUL MIND TEAM check-in daily and follow through with the daily prompts. Your meet-ups will be a casual way for them to relax and share. Consider once a week or at the beginning & end of the month.

Be the change that you want to see.

Foodie Fit: great tips for meal planning.

Start simple & stay consistent plus I’ve got more resources in the next quote box below. Scroll down for the goodies.

Dance Fit: one more Sensazao, I suggest you follow them 😉

There’s more goodies for you…

BEAUTIFUL  SOUL  CHALLENGE is next.

Beautiful Mind – Day 21

Our mind is like a garage because we can stuff it with anything. What do you contain? Are you organized with shelves or renovated into a home gym? Are there boxes from 1975 stacked beneath 2013?

Take a few minutes and start to empty things out through your writing. The purpose of this exercise is to notice what’s there and eventually organize it. (Organizing will happen tomorrow so don’t loose your paper.)

Dance Fit: I remember learning this routine at a Zumba Convention.

Foodie Fit: ever wondered about squash and how to cook it?

You can make a difference, start sharing this BEAUTIFUL MIND challenge with a friend or loved one. Setup a specific time to work on it or to checkin with each other. Maybe organize a girl group and use the daily prompts as guide.

You can also post in the comments to make your thoughts known in the universe. And thank you for joining this journey.

Peace be the journey.
