You realize that firefighters are expected to be more conditioned & fit compared to police. I always see local police at coffee shops or sitting in their vehicle, or is that just me? Lol
I am a long time admirer of this profession (firefighters) and want to honor them. Especially after the memory of 9/11 😔 Images of men & women sacrificing everything to save one. It’s been 18 years but feels like yesterday.
To honor his fellow firefighters Aaron Zamzow in 9/11/11 competed in Ironman Wisconsin. Upholding the memory of the 343 that gave their all. Eventually he opened Fire Rescue Fitness encouraging others to live a fit life.
The city of Tacoma holds a memorial service every 9/11 at 9am for the past 18 years and will continue.
Complete with releasing of the doves. 🕊
It’s crazy to realize that there’s an entire generation of young adults who weren’t born & have no memory of this painful event. Eighteen years has gone by so quickly but it still hurts.
Retired Captain of NY Fire Department Stands with the Mayor & Tacoma’s Captain. Below is his story…
They lowered the flags, rang the bell & played the bagpipes. The crowd stood their in solidarity & silence, remembering their bravery.
Stay fit, eat well & peace be the journey. This is what I’m up to… https://instabio.cc/Walk_Inn_Beauty Hope to see you on IG, you’ll find me as Walk_Inn_Beauty
From April – June I started conditioning classes to get paddlers ready to pull. Every year different tribes from the PNW host an annual Canoe Journey. This year it was Lummi.
On this particular 5:30 am sunrise we connected our minds to the 4-hour paddle ahead. It was exciting & overwhelming at the same time. Below are my thoughts on conditioning the mind…
- BREATHE – Sometimes we overthink the situation. To put it into perspective it’s not 4-hours but one dig at a time. [To “dig” is to put the paddle in the water a pull your canoe through.]
- FEEL – Connect with the joy and excitement of others & allow that to feed your motivation while squashing any doubt.
- DO – You’ll never know what’s possible until you try.
On this particular part of the journey I had the privilege to paddle with my two oldest children. They were ready! In fact this was their pre-paddle schedule…
- 2x’s Week 6am Walk/Run
- 2x’s Week a 60min STRONG Session
- 2x’s Week Culture Lessons
When we lifted the cedar canoe into the water the sky greeted us with a few sun rays and a rainbow. Unfortunately I didn’t capture the rainbow but it was totally there.
We paddled from Port Of Tacoma to Alki Beach in Seattle. It was beautiful!!! Especially when we stopped on one of the islands for stacks & a quick toilet break.
My personal favorite was the lighthouses along the way. They inspire me to live simple and be the light in a dark world.
Vashon Island was so generous to host us for a 30min break. Each tribe was able to get refreshments & use the much needed toilets. 🙂
The best way to enjoy our shores is to paddle along it, almost as if you’re becoming one with nature. Remember to ALOHA ALWAYS https://www.hoomalamalama.com
Here are the fliers for the journey. I wanted to upload them onto my blog so I didn’t have to worry about papers. Mahalo Daydishka for giving me the lineup.

In May we started a special session for the Nisqually Canoe Family who are getting ready for the PADDLE TO LUMMI.
I’m doing a combination of Strong By Zumba™️ & holistic lifestyle coaching in preparation for the journey.
It’s a start & I’m excited to be working with Janel Blacketer of the Nisqually Gardens on some post-workout smoothies, yummy 😋.
Paddle to LUMMI is from July 15-28th. They’re starting from Squaxin Island Tribe & paddling their way to Lummi. Watch the training here.
MY NEW PLANNER
When all else fails CREATE SOMETHING anything, just let it flow. “I’m Back!”
MANA Mindset doesn’t mean you live in an oasis & birds sing as you walk. It’s listening to your soul & taking a break to reconnect to the source of your JOY & HAPPINESS.
We will face stress & distractions. The goal is to identify them & have a system or mantra to get back on track. For me it’s art, mad art. 🤬
I just color like mad & think about what I need. I conjure the feelings that I desire: joy, happiness, success, organization… Meanwhile I don’t stop until the whole page is covered.
Then I write the first word that comes to mind & step back. 😇
This is what happens when my meticulous planning & schedules go BONKERS 👾👻 🥴 I do “Mad Art Therapy” or at least that’s what I call it.
I hope you try it 😁🤙🏽 and use #walkinnbeauty if you do. Speaking of @walk_inn_beauty I will be sharing this technique in a mastermind session if you would like to join our community visit & follow the link & follow. I will post our next session.
Life is a woven web of food, fitness, emotion and so much more. It’s a balance. And when I mention beauty, I’m not talking about what you read in a magazine or see on Instagram. I’m talking about your physical beauty and how it relates to self-care.
These are a few of my fave bulk buy, organic beauty products. Most of my base ingredients come from Mountain Rose Herbs 🌿 locates here in the Pacific Northwest.
I’ve talked about clays before, here, and that’s because of its many benefits. My fave is Rhassoul 💜 luv it!
I recently started to add incense into my routine for the sheer pleasure of the aroma. Shoyeido is my favorite brand because it’s not crazy-smoky like others and I don’t get irritated by the fragrance.
Salts!!! After any grueling workout you’ll want a regenerating salt bath. I like to make my own. But sometimes I get lazy, that’s when I turn to my friend who created these…
Oils!!! After the soak I keep it simple. And yes there is a difference between regular and organic oils.
This is something I just got. Going to do more research on it. It’s a Himalayan salt rock. Have a healthy & fit week!
PEACE BE THE JOURNEY
Oh so random compared to the regular wellness chat but I’m posting about MANA. You know, that Polynesian word for strength & energy. Three things get me in a MANA MOOD: Planners (because I like to schedule), Crafting (gets the happy-vibes flowing) and Intentional Jewelry like my lava stone bracelets.
What’s your MANA Mood helpers in life?
